1. Identify your audience directly or indirectly while explaining the topic, issue or occasion that makes your article relevant to that audience. For example "Community organizations and service-learning programs are continually challenged by..." 2. Introduce the author and article's content explicitly. For example, "In this how-to and profile article, Tania Smith, a professor at the University of Calgary, outlines the steps she took to create a service-learning course involving students writing online content for community organizations."
